Product Description
Recycled Bobbin Hour Glass. This useful gift is made by a family firm. The bobbin ends holding the hour glass are recycled from bobbins around 75 – 100 years old, and are sourced from old mills such as Oxford Mill, Rochdale or Whitchurch Silk Mill. Some were used to spin tyre cord for Morris Cars, or Held yarn for weaving cotton cloth.
They are very beautiful to look at and a piece of furniture in their own right. There is something mesmerizing and therapeutic about watching the sand trickle through the glass, and I defy any of your friends not to want to turn it over if it is not running ! Not suitable for rooms with young children as the glass is delicate. Also not an exact time piece as they are a hand made and each hour glass has it’s own character. My friend Cecile bought one of these for her partner and it sits on his home office desk – he is in trouble if he is not out from behind the computer by when the sand has completed it's journey.
